TikTok & Twitch's Top Hard Rock Musicians
Plus: Digital Song Sales, YouTube Videos, Attendance + more
This one is even more packed than usual, so buckle up.
For starters, I’m offering a couple of new metrics. Musicians from our world are slowly paying more attention to TikTok. I say “slowly” because it’s taken them much longer to start (and manage) active profiles there than, say, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Certainly, bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Gym Class Heroes, and Falling In Reverse saw significant streaming boosts courtesy of popular TikToks, but those were made by fans.
I poked around to see which musicians are on there. Some of these accounts are clearly placeholders but gather strong followings based on name recognition alone. Other folks, like Ronnie Radke, are using the platform more actively now.
I put together a list of the Top 40 Hard Rock, Metal, and Punk accounts on TikTok. Undoubtedly I missed a few, so please feel free to add more to my stack.
I took a deep dive into Twitch. The New York Times published that story about Matt Heafy from Trivium last October. Danny Wimmer Presents and Knotfest (including yours truly!) started and/or took over active channels. Ronnie crushes it there, as does DragonForce’s Herman Li. Like the TikTok list, this Top 25 is a work in progress. I measured in terms of followers, though there are other metrics, too — like time spent watching videos, and monetization.
Also in this issue: this week’s Top 50 Hard Rock & Metal Music Videos on YouTube, including new entries from Motionless In White and Rammstein. Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, including No Resolve, MiW, and HARDY. Alternative Digital Song Sales, including Dropkick Murphys and YUNGBLUD.
