72 Seasons amassed the most activity for a rock album in 3.5 years, with 145k total units in US activity during its first week. 73.3% of those were CDs and vinyl.
72 Seasons sold 250% more vinyl first week than 2016’s Hardwired… album.
Metallica, the first Record Store Day ambassador in 2008, was the sixth best-selling US vinyl artist of 2022 with 387,000 units. A few months ago, the band bought the long-running Furnace Vinyl-Pressing plants in Virginia.
Research from LUMINATE (formerly Music Connect/MRC, Soundscan) shows that metal fans are 50% more likely to have purchased vinyl in the last 12 months when compared to the average US consumer. Metal fans are also 28% more likely to cite sound quality as important when making a purchase.
