News You Can Use 📰

  • U.S. Music Consumption Saw Double-Digit Growth in 2023 as Streaming Surged, Sales Rebounded.

  • One of every 15 vinyl albums sold in the U.S. last year was by Taylor Swift.

  • Swift and Morgan Wallen together constituted 2.49% of overall music consumption in 2023, according to new data from Luminate.

  • Rock music accounted for 41.47% of all album sales and 42.36% of physical sales last year. Those numbers are bigger than the next four genres (R&B/hip-hop, pop, country, and World music) combined. Rock catalog (music older than 18 months) sales were 30.8M units, more than pop and R&B/hip-hop combined.

Correction: on yesterday’s podcast, I misspoke when I said Linkin Park had “100M monthly listeners.” I meant total listeners in 2023, not monthly.
