MEGADETH Fights For First Billboard 200 No. 1
Megadeth’s new record is projected to do 70,000 in total activity in the first week, with 65,000 from album sales. HITS Daily Double has the band’s self-titled final album, which just gave them their first No. 1 in Australia, at No. 2.
It’s in a close race with Morgan Wallen’s fourth album, I’m The Problem, from May 2025, which is also expected to do 70,000 in total activity this week (with 2000 from album sales). Megadeth’s highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 is 1992’s Countdown to Extinction, which debuted at No. 2.
Team Megadeth has pulled out all of the stops to nail down that elusive No. 1 in the USA. “This #1 Is Ours to Take. Megafam, we’re in the middle of something big,” read an email missive sent yesterday. The email asks fans to purchase the full album for $5 on iTunes or Amazon Music, which includes a bonus track.
“This isn’t hype, it’s a real fight for the top spot,” the email said. “We’re neck and neck, and the next 24 hours matter.”
Megadeth’s new album is their first-ever No. 1 in Australia, and debuted at No. 3 in the UK, where Louis Tomlinson is No. 1, and Olivia Dean is No. 2.
DANZIG & JERRY ONLY Earn New Gold Plaques
Three Misfits singles were just certified gold by the RIAA in the United States: classic ‘80s tracks “Last Caress” and “Hybrid Moments,” alongside “Dig Up Her Bones” from the Geffen Records reunion era fronted by Michael Graves.
This brings the total Misfits certifications to four. The band’s comprehensive self-titled box set, issued 30 years ago by Caroline Records, was certified gold in 2008. (The RIAA’s stated release date for “Hybrid Moments” is also in 1996, although the song was recorded in 1978 and first appeared via Plan 9 in 1985.)
“Last Caress” is the band’s biggest song on Spotify, with 114.5 million streams. “Hybrid Moments” just joined the 100M Rock Club. The Glenn Danzig-less “Dig Up Her Bones” trails them both with 84 million streams.

CONCORD LABEL GROUP Promotes Andy Serrao
Andy Serrao was promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Concord Label Group, overseeing A&R and strategic marketing across Concord Records, Fearless Records, and Rounder Records. Andy joined Fearless Records shortly after its 2015 acquisition by Concord. Congratulations, Andy! On a related note, Billboard reports BMG Rights Management is in active negotiations to acquire Concord.
DEFTONES Rights Sale to Warner
Interesting consumption numbers in the middle of Billboard’s new report about Deftones rights sale to Warner:
While Deftones have released two albums this decade — Ohms in 2020 and Private Music last year — they are not what’s driving the bulk of the band’s sales and streaming activity. Private Music generated 249,000 album‑consumption units in the U.S. last year, while Ohmsgarnered nearly 37,000 album‑consumption units, with Luminate showing a lifetime total of 294,000 units for the latter title.
Instead, Deftones albums released prior to 2016 are putting up the biggest numbers for the band. For example, last year:
Around the Fur (1997) generated 382,000 U.S. consumption units
White Pony (2000) generated 301,000
Diamond Eyes (2010) reached 240,000
Koi No Yokan (2012) logged 175,000
Archers, Atreyu, Dark Divine, ERRA, From Ashes To New, HANABIE., Held. ft. Frank Iero, Joyce Manor, Karnivool, Magnolia Park ft. Arrows In Action, Meet Me At The Altar, Motionless In White, Of Virtue, Papa Roach, Sevendust, STARSET, Varials, and more new music in the Stream N’ Destroy playlist.
