Big congrats to KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, their team at Strong Management, Roadrunner staffers past and present, and their longtime agent, Tim Borror, on three new RIAA milestones. “My Curse,” the first single from 2006’s As Daylight Dies, was certified PLATINUM for one million sales and equivalent streams in the United States. “The End of Heartache” and the band’s cover of DIO’s “Holy Diver” were both certified GOLD, for a half-million units each, on the very same day, September 10.
These plaques should join the KILLSWITCH team’s walls next to the GOLD album awards for the half-million-plus selling As Daylight Dies and The End of Heartache (2004), as well as the (Set This) World Ablaze DVD from 2005. (DVDs are certified GOLD at 50k.) The band’s latest album, Atonement, was issued last year by Metal Blade Records in North America and Sony Music in the rest of the world.
Much love to Adam, Mike, Jesse, Joel, Justin, Howard, Vaughn, Kenny, Gitter, Amy, Tim, and everyone else who played a part in these huge WINS for heavy metal!
It was my honor to contribute to Dave Mustaine’s RUST IN PEACE: The Inside Story of the Metal Masterpiece by putting together the book’s foreword with SLASH, and by hosting a series of fan Q&As with the man himself, Mr. Mustaine, who I am proud to call my friend. Videoing in from his home in Tennessee, Dave was healthy, happy, and in-between sessions on the followup to the slammin’ Dystopia album. Two of those conversations were for the live audiences only, but the first is now available on Megadeth’s Facebook page and on YouTube. It’s a killer discussion about the book and more, during which Dave picked up his guitar to show the fans the riff to “Five Magics”! MEGADETH is the band that got me into heavy metal; getting to know Dave and David Ellefson over the last several years is one of the happiest blessings of my adult life. Many thanks to 5B and Hachette Books for making these Q&As happen.
